SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL  DANCE CONFERENCE FESTIVAL 2024

World Dance Alliance Singapore invites you to the vibrant and bustling city of Singapore for the 2024 Singapore International Dance Conference and Festival to showcase, share and learn from one another. The festival will be an opportunity to share ideas, knowledge, viewpoints, artistry and virtuosity through the language of dance.

 

SIDCF will be combined with the yearly event of WDA – AP, which includes performances, masterclass and conference, with participants from all over the Asia Pacific,  and including the Annual General Meeting of WDA-AP on Sunday 1st September.

 

Festival/Conference date : 2nd – 4th September 2024

Dr Urmimala Sakar

Dr Urmimala Sarkar is Professor and Dean of at the School of Arts and Aesthetics in Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. She is a social anthropologist / performance studies scholar and a trained dancer- choreographer, with research in socio-political assertions of identity through cultural practices. Urmimala is a member of the editorial board of the journal of the Indian Anthropological Society (JIAS), Journal of South Asian Dance Intersections (SADI) and Springer book series "Performance Studies and Cultural Discourse in South Asia".

Wang Yunyu

Yunyu is a founding dancer of Cloud Gate (CG) Theatre, the first professional modern dance company in Taiwan. She danced with CG between 1973 – 81. Wang is a certified Labanotation Teacher (1984), Restager (1985) and Laban Movement Analysis (1996). She restaged 26 master dances from Labanotation and choreographed 21 dances for dance companies and the university dance programs internationally. Wang is actively engaged in dance in Asia and USA

Bilqis Hijjas

Bilqis Hijjas works as a creative producer and critic in contemporary dance, and manages an arts residency in Malaysia.

Currently Secretary of MyDance Alliance, a membership organisation supporting dance in Malaysia, she has produced the popular Dancebox performance series, and was a key organizer of MyDance Festival 2011 and 2013, Tepak Tari in 2015, and Dancebox Festival in 2019. She is also editor of Malaysian online arts criticism platform Critics Republic, and the Southeast Asia vice president of World Dance Alliance Asia-Pacific.

Professor Dr. Mohd Anis Md Nor is the Executive Director of Nusantara Performing Arts Research Centre in Kuala Lumpur and an Adjunct Professor, School of Arts, Sunway University, and a member of the Student Development Advisory Council, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.

 

Professor Dr. Mohd Anis Md Nor is the former Secretary General of World Dance Alliance (WDA Americas, WDA Asia Pacific and WDA Europe); Past Chair of the ICTMD (International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance) Study group on Performing Arts of Southeast Asia (ICTMD PASEA) (as a non-governmental organization in formal consultative relations with UNESCO)

Professor Chan has over thirty years of diverse experience in the dance field as performer, arts educator, producer, curator and administrator, and currently, she is the Dean of the School of Dance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She held key roles such as Chairperson of the Hong Kong Dance Alliance from 2006-2011, Vice-President (East Asia) of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific (WDAAP) from 2007-2017, currently co-chair of WDAAP Education and Training Network, Director and Chairman of the programme committee of Tai Kwun Cultural and Arts Company Ltd, performing arts committee member of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) and council member of the China Dancers’ Association.

Chieh-hua Hsieh is the Artistic Director of Anarchy Dance Theatre. Chieh-hua’s works have a unique quality, derived from his dual background in architecture and dance. His pieces possess strong structural characteristics and embody creative perspectives regarding time, space and energy in both physical and digital way, which are deeply embedded within layers of meaning. Chieh-hua’s acclaimed works of choreography include Second Body, Seventh Sense, The Eternal Straight Line and CyborgEros , which mainly focus on interactive dance performance.

Julie Dyson AM

Julie works in a voluntary capacity as an arts advocate across several national and international organisations, including as immediate past Chair of the National Advocates for Arts Education and as Secretary of the World Dance Alliance Asia Pacific. She is the former national director of Ausdance, where her work included policy development, advice to funding bodies, government departments, companies and individual artists, and the initiation of innovative partnerships to promote and support contemporary dance, performers and educators. Julie has edited or co-edited many publications, including Dance Forum, Shaping the Landscape –Celebrating Dance in Australia, and Shifting Sands: Dance in Asia and the Pacific. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2007.

Xenres Kirishima is the President of World Dance Alliance Singapore, and Director of Nagi Contemporary Dance Corps. Integrating Asian traditions and Western philosophies with science and somatics. With his exceptional choreographic vision and understanding of contemporary dance, Xenres leads the company in creating works that imbues tradition with modernity.

Xenres's leadership and artistry have earned him recognition on both national and international stages. His tireless dedication to promoting the arts has transformed the dance landscape, fostering an inclusive community that celebrates diversity and creativity.
